Breast Thermography Evaluation Program Instructions — Image Evaluation

Visual Asymmetry

Image evaluation begins with a question that solicits a simple yes/no qualitative response from the analyst:

Clear difference?
"Edge-Sign"

The second query seeks to objectively determine the existence of a convexity or concavity along the breast profile. This is a rare, but very important thermal sign.

Clear difference?

Illustrative examples and description of edge-sign:

Uniform venous structure
A marked distortion in the mammary thermographic contour, mainly in the lower quadrants, with locally flattened, hollowed (concave), or embossed (convex) contour. (Sometimes the flattened contour is called 'edge-sign').
